Geneva, November, 2004 :
Independent media are an essential tool to fight corruption
said
journalist Joelle Kuntz, chairwoman of the Media and Society
Foundation, commenting Transparency International’s
Corruption
Perception Index 2004.
The Media and Society Foundation, an
independent body run by media professionals,
promotes an ISO 9000
quality management system for the media around the world.
“The first media adopting our ISAS
BC 9001 standard are established in
some of the numerous countries where corruption remains a major
obstacle to social
development. They realized that a quality standard
based on principles universally recognized by professionals helps
them
playing their full societal role, in spite of outside pressures.”
“Every man has a basic right to
access, in his language and culture, to
impartial and credible information about the world he lives in, be it
at the local,
national or global level. It is a basic requirement of
democracy.”, concluded Kuntz.
