About the Media & Society Foundation…
The MEDIA &
SOCIETY FOUNDATION (FMS) is a not-for-profit organization founded in Geneva, Switzerland, by a group of prominent media
professionals internationally recognized for their experience and commitment to press freedom.
The Foundation is
supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in Bern.
The board of the Foundation is
composed of the following members:
- Antonio Riva, lawyer, chairman of the Swiss National
Sound Archives, media consultant in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, former CEO of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, chairman of the
board of the foundation.
- Joelle Kuntz, Lead writer « Le Temps».
- Thérèse Gastaut, former Director of the Strategic Communications Division of the United Nations
Department of Public Information (DPI).
- Jean-Paul Rüttimann, former journalist at DRS,
Swiss German public radio, professor at the University of Fribourg.
- Peter Studer, president of the
Swiss Press Council, former information director DRS, Swiss German public Television.
- Claude
Torracinta, journalist, producer, chairman Hospice General Geneva. Former Information Director of Swiss Television.
- Vinzens Wyss, professor of media sociology at the Institute of applied media sciences of the Zürcher
Hochschule Winterthur, author of a book about editorial quality management.
- Henrikas Yushkiavitchus,
former Minister for telecommunications of the USSR, former assistant director general of UNESCO, in charge of information and
communication, now advisor to the director general of UNESCO.
- Friedrich Sauerländer, member of the boards of Swissmetal, BNP Paribas Switzerland, Scor Switzerland, former Managing Director Alusuisse, Eternit, SGS, André, Rolex Bienne.
- Claude Monnier, columnist, advisor to the general management of
Edipresse Suisse, former chief editor of "Le Journal de Genève" and "Le Temps
stratégique".
- Henry Muller, journalist and media consultant, former editor-in-chief
Time magazine and editorial director of Time Warner Group, former member of the board of trustees of Stanford University and the
Carnegie Corporation.
- Vladimir Petrovsky, former director of United Nations Geneva.
- Gérald Sapey, president of Reporters without Borders (Switzerland), former CEO of Tribune de
Genève and of Radio Suisse Romande (French speaking national public service radio of
Switzerland).
